Standard Ceilings
Ceiling fans need a solid ceiling to fit to, they must be attached to a joist or a "noggin" fitted if they are to go in between joists concrete ceilings are fine but suspended ceilings aren't.

Low Ceilings
"Hugger" Fans fit close up to the ceiling. If the fan is supplied with a small drop rod, you don't always have to use it and can adapt the fan to fit close to the ceiling if it has this option.

High Ceilings
Ceiling fans that have this option can replace the small drop rod that is supplied with longer drop rods.

Sloped Ceilings
The mount for a ceiling fan can cope with sloped ceilings up to 40 degrees.

76cm/30" blade size for rooms up to 10sq mtrs
105cm/42" blade size for rooms up to 15 sq mtrs
132cm/52" blade size for rooms up to 25 sq mtrs

Remember this is only a guide. A large fan in a small room can look really good,
and if you have a large room you can use more than one fan.

How do you want to Control your Ceiling Fan?

Can I install a ceiling fan myself?

Room size guide

Pull cords from fan direct

On the majority of ceiling fans there is the option for 3 speed controls of the motor and a on/off for built in lights

Wall controllers

Domestic and commercial  fans can be controlled by standard AC wall controllers. They fit into standard wall boxes with option of speed controller and/or light switch.

Remote controllers

Variety of IR (Infra red) or RF (Radio frequency) handheld remotes No extra wiring is needed to wire into the remote control unit it simply plugs into the mains side of the ceiling fan and then plugs into the fan with 2 simple plug connections.

Where are you using your ceiling fan?

What type of ceiling have you got?

If you have a high or sloped ceiling then you will need a 12” or 18” drop rod to lower the fan blades. Ideally the fan should be 8-9 feet above the floor. Remember this is a guide this shouldn't put you off having a ceiling fan if you can’t get it into this range just look in some warehouses and shops/pubs where they are 15ft or higher!

Ceiling fans fit in many places around the home or office. However some locations may not be suitable for safety reasons, as a general rule it’s advised that you shouldn’t use a fan at the same time as any gas powered appliances are used. This is due to the air pressure in the room drops.

CANNOT BE USED: Outdoors (unless rated), Bathrooms, Utilities, Proximity of gas boilers heaters cookers

It’s ok to  fit a fan in your home but you will need to get all connections checked by an electrician. Our ceiling fans can work from normal house lighting rings, they only need LN&Earth connection.

Ceiling fans are low wattage so there is no need for separate power supplies, the biggest in our collection is only 95W with the average being between 50 – 60W on full speed, so you can quite happily replace an existing light fitting on your lighting circuit. Most fans will have 2 independent pull cords on them, which control the motor speeds and the light (if fitted).

The pull switch for the motor will pull 4 times so that you can select the 3 motor speeds or off, the light pull switch (if fitted) will turn the Light on or off independently from the motor. They also have a forward / reverse switch on the motor for summer / winter settings, except for Industrial or Taylor fans which are not reversible

Buyers Guide

You can replace normal light fittings without leaving you in darkness! Ceiling fans with lights come pre wired so you can use the normal house wiring from your light switches, or even upgrade to a matching wall controller.

Our fans have the lights build in and pre wired, but the Design & Combine range has light kits that you can add on to your Fan. A range of matching wall lights is also available.

What styles and finishes are available?

We have about 13 finishes available, the fans are classified in the following: Modern, Classic, Traditional, Commercial and basic. There are just under 60 different fans so you’ll have plenty to choose from!

Matching accessories include a small range of wall lights to match certain fans, wall controllers and drop rods.
